What is the Food Safety Supervisor program?

Food laws in certain states in Australia have made the Food Safety Supervisor program mandatory for hospitality operations that sell food or beverages. The Food Safety Supervisor training program aims to prevent individuals from becoming ill as a result of food poisoning or poorly handled food. Topics covered in the course include using hygienic practices for food safety and participating in safe food handling practices.

Who should complete their Food Safety Supervisor training?

Food Safety Supervisors are nominated by the business owner. Each premise needs to have at least one trained Food Safety Supervisor. They may be the owner, chef, manager or employee. Business that should have at least one trained Food Safety Supervisor:

Restaurants, Cafes , Takeaways, Caterers, Bakeries, Pubs ,Clubs Hotels Food stalls Mobile food vendors, Supermarket hot food

Course Module

The Food Safety Supervisor course provided by Salford College provides students with two units of competency, both of which are recognised throughout Australia:

SITXFSA201 – Participate in safe food handling practices

SITXFSA101 – Use Hygienic practices for food safety (pre-requisite training for SITXFSA201)

These units describe the performance outcomes, skills and knowledge required to be able to apply proper hygiene practices within a business. This includes the ability to be able to apply predetermined procedures, identify and control potential hazards and take the correct action to ensure the non-contamination of food and other items that might put customers, colleagues and yourself at a health risk.

Face to Face Training

  • classroom sessions

We also hold classroom sessions periodically throughout the year. If you have a group of 10 or more students but require a classroom venue to deliver the training we can provide sessions at our campus in Adelaide.

  • Individual training

If you are an individual who would like to complete the FSS training course please get in touch with us. We may be able to place you in an existing group or classroom session depending on availability.
